What is Architecture? As many books put it “Architecture cannot be explained”. Its about how different people look at it. Is it something that just gives pleasure to your eyes or is it something you really live in or both? Well.. this is a never ending conflict that has been going on ever since man started constructing. From the caves of the ancient times to the Petronas, we have seen architecture take wild turns and a number of styles fighting for universal acceptance.

Everything  is transient and architecture is no exception. And now it all comes down to the contemporary style, a new era that will be talked about some years down the line. Nothing is right or wrong about architecture. Its all relative!!!

Australian education - harder for Indians

For quite a few years Indians have been choosing Australia as their preferred location of higher education over the US due to 2 major reasons - lesser cost and lenient visa requirements. Pink slips in Vogue: Ask Jet Airways

IT companies make a fashion statement in color PINK and the Aviation companies dont want to be left behind. Thats the story behind India’s largest corporate Lay-off club, whose newest members are Jet airways-Kingfisher. Jet Airways broke a Lay-off club record by issuing Pink Slips to nearly 1500 employees much to the commendation of its investors and its operational partner Kingfisher. As India eagerly invites MNC investors to invest in Indian companies we seem to overlook the fact that these so-called investors are not here to stay but to capitalize by investing in companies in booming Indian sectors and  as the demand subdues they exit out leaving a crippled company behind. A classic example of a Rape and Retreat plan. 

According to a stub on Pink Slips on Wikipedia: 

“Pink slip refers to the American practice, by a personnel department, of including a discharge notice (printed on pink paper) in an employee’s pay envelope to notify the worker of his or her termination of employment or layoff.”

As with everything else, India seems to welcome this Sarcastic, American Practice of issuing a pink slip with great flavour.  There might come a time when people in India frame the pink-slip issued by their company to show-off their Americanism. Sticking to where we started, we all understand that running an airline is not a joke, you have heavy operational costs and overheads to take care of, apart from worrying about rising fuel prices. But does that justify the fact that you fire 1500 employees, if you dont need them now, why hire them in the first place? The irony of the matter lies at the fact that, every single company boasts in their annual meet about their undying ‘love for their employee’ and about employees being the true asset to the company. If you cant save the jobs, atleast, please save the cliches.
