Altec Lansing Speakers

Altec Lansing ATP3

If you’re looking for speakers that are real a value for money, you are looking for speakers from Altec Lansing. I have been delighted with the performance of my ATP3 speakers. The satellite speakers are just wider than two of your fingers put together, and the woofer is covered on all sides. But you should listed to the clarity of sound produced by this beauty! You’ll be mesmerized.

I bought them for just about $60 about 4 years back, and to see it rendering the same unmatched quality in sound even today as i write this, I’ll say its grossly over-lived! The highlight is that the output is very faithful over a wide spectrum of frequencies. The bass output is absolutely splendid. You should listen to songs like “Mama I’m coming home” in these speakers - the bass sets off my bed and back into synchronous vibrations! Even in the best of speakers, the sound splits to produce undesirable sounds at higher frequencies. But, the ATP3 maintains alarmingly good stability and clarity in sound at these pitches. This gives the guitar of Van Halen, its rightful and deserving timber!

John Petrucci - An Exceptional Guitarist

“I now welcome a truly exceptional guitarist onto the stage…” - these were the words used by the legend Joe Satriani in a G3 Denver live concert, to call upon John Pertucci on stage! This exceptional guitarist is recognized as one of the greatest living today, whom we normally associate with the band Dream Theater. Besides he is also a part of the band - Liquid Tension Experiment; if you would remember its very famous song “Paradigm Shift”.

John started playing the guitar when he was 8 years old just because his parents would let him sleep late; under the pretext of practice! Later when he was 12, he was invited to join a band by his friend Kevin Moore, who would later become Dream Theater’s first keyboardist. John then went to study at the Berklee School of music at Boston where he met with Mike Portnoy and John Myung (another childhood friend of his). They started a band named Majesty which would later be called “Dream Theater”.

It needs no mention that John is the rhythm and lead guitarist of Dream Theater! How easy is that? You should see his dexterity when he plays those ultra-fast alternate picking leads - i’m blown away! His achievement and adeptness have led him into the elite league of highly acclaimed guitarists who get to play in the G3 tours. He has managed to do this twice over - in 2001 and in 2007. He also has a solo album “Suspended Animation” to his credit. His guitar video lessons in the compilation “Rock Discipline” is like the bible of rock music to numerous budding guitarists.

Petrucci is one of those guitarists who are self-learners. Although his inspiration to play the most versatile instrument, were the greats like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Vai, Al De Mealo and others, his style of music is wholly unique to listen to. Every song of his has the signature of JP stamped on it. You could vividly discern a Petrucci number from a pool of other rock music songs.

He also possesses an uncanny ability to perfectly sync with fellow Dream Theater keyboardists like Jordan Rudess etc. and render music that is truly an out of the world experience. Its because of masterpieces like Erotomania, Home, Ytse Jam, Glasgow Kiss, Damage Inc, Paradigm shift and a lot more that John Petrucci is a truly exceptional guitarist!

James Hetfield – Metallica

James Hetfield is the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the American rock band Metallica. He was born on August 3rd 1963 in Downey, California. He has climbed such great heights today, given that his father was a truck driver. James settled with the guitar at the age of 14, after trying his hand at piano and the drums. He was greatly influenced by laudable bands like Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Queen etc..
Skipping different bands in his early days of his career he finally formed Metallica with Dave Mustaine (leads) and Lars Ulrich (drums). Although James was initially reluctant to be the lead vocalist, competition forced him to take up the responsibility. He wrote the lyrics and was instrumental in arranging the harmonies with Ulrich. Their first album was released in 1983 which was named ‘Kill ‘em all’. The album was a success and the band later produced masterpieces like ‘Master of Puppets’, ‘Black Album’ etc.. James’ music was greatly influenced by the memories of his mother and her passing away due to cancer. Songs like Mama Said, Dyer’s Eve, Until it Sleeps were written in this melancholic reminiscence.
Hetfield, besides his passion for singing and playing the guitar, was crazy about vintage guitars and automobiles. His wide collection of Chevys and four wheel drives is enviable. He was also quoted to have been fuming with anger at the first opportunity, which subdued after he met his wife Francesca. Surely he is not one guy who is hen-pecked! James had his fair share of accidents too, notably when he got parts of his hands, eyebrows and hair burnt after unassumingly stepping over chemical flames in a 1992 concert. Though, his guitar took the brunt of the flame burst to save him!
James has ostentatiously displayed his versatility in singing, with chartbusters like Nothing Else Matters, No leaf clover and a lot more. His voice that has matured over the years has the uncanny knack of attracting huge crowds. Needless to say that the band pivots on the fulcrum provided by this legendary vocalist!!

Joe Satriani – The Legend

Satriani – one of the greatest guitar players was born on July 15th 1956 in Newyork, USA. His compositions and playing styles bear a unique signature in all his works. He is also the teacher of some eminent guitarists like Steve Vai, Slash(GNR), Kirk Hammett(Metallica) and list goes on. He has also worked closely in his G3 concerts with big names like John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert to name a few.
Joe was highly influenced in his early years by the music of the Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page. At 14 he got an inspiration to play the guitar after hearing the news of Hendrix’s demise. Thus the next legend was born. His relentless sessions of practice and creativity catapulted him as a musician and also as a higher human being. In 1978 he went to Berkeley, California with a view to pursue his career in music. He was a religious follower of the school of thought – Amateurs practice till they get it right; Professionals practice till they cannot get it wrong. It was then that he started teaching. In 1986 he released his first album ‘Not of This Earth’ which was a commendable debut. Later he produced brilliant songs in various albums like Big bad moon, Always with me etc.
Satriani is well known for his mastery of the legato and 2 hand finger tapping technique. A pinnacle of his expertise with the tapping technique is the song Midnight from the album Surfing with the Alien. He is also well known for adept usage of the whammy bar, harmonics and the Pitch Axis Theory.
In all, Satriani has sold over 10 million copies of his records and has 14 Grammy nominations to his credit. His endorsed gears include the Ibanez JS series and Peavey’s JSR amplifiers. The legend only proves the dominance of Italian origins in the world of Guitars!
